El Priorat

The Priorat has been an area linked to wine for centuries. The Priorat is one of the smallest wine-growing areas in Spain, and the smallest in Catalonia, as well as the only qualified designation of origin in Catalonia.

El Priorat , as a wine region, has had two great glorious moments.
In the 13th century the Carthusian monks of Scala Dei brought a series of knowledge about viticulture that have taken strong root in the area. The monks made wine to produce vermouth, although with the arrival of phylloxera the vines died and the area was practically abandoned.
It wasn’t until 1980 that the Priory was back in the spotlight at a global level. Thanks to the winegrowers who replanted vines after the phylloxera, preserving the agricultural tradition of the area, this heroic viticulture, they have been able to make wines recognized worldwide, placing the Priorat designation of origin as one of the most known worldwide.

The key to the wines of the Priorat lies in its soil, the licorice is the stone on which the vine grows, and which allows us to make wines with this characteristic and sincere typicality of this very special territory.
